Sometimes a few of our potential clients have asked "Why are your prices higher than other photographers we talked with?"

We only book our clients in the late afternoon/evening or early morning for outdoor location portraits. These times are the ONLY times we use so the lighting is the best.

If the photographer takes you out too early in the afternoon or out in the bright sunlight, it will result in harsh shadows and squinting eyes. We counsel with our clients about the proper clothing for their portraits.

We use poses that make you look good! Great portraits will have great expressions. We "take" plenty of pictures to INSURE GREAT expressions!

As you view other photographer's web sites and their displays, look at the lighting.

The word "PHOTOGRAPHY" means "painting with light."

Are the faces washed out from too much "on camera" flash?

Are the faces in dark shadow with no detail? Is the sky all washed out because they do not have the knowledge and lighting skills to balance the light? Beware of someone who claims to use "only natural light". Sometimes natural light is great, sometimes it creates harsh shadows, dark faces, and is just not there when and where we need it.

Do the subjects FACES show in the portrait or are they "running away" from the photographer?

Are the colors natural looking or is there too much contrast? Do the Skin colors look natural or are the skin colors to red or too yellow?

Do the subjects look like they are relaxed and happy?

Are ALL eyes open with great expressions?

(I have actually seen displays on some web sites where the subjects have closed eyes or droopy eyes!) Or 5 people are looking at the camera and one is looking somewhere else! We do NOT do that! NEVER! Either everyone should be looking at the camera or everyone should be looking the same direction.

Does the photographer have the skills to pose "overweight people" so they look great?

Does the photographer have the artistic skills to use artwork enhancements (if requested) to make bodies and faces look slimmer?

Are the people lined up like they are waiting for a firing squad to shoot them or are they posed in a nice composition?

How are the subjects dressed? Did the photographer counsel with them about what looks great and "timeless", or are the clothes "dated" so the portrait, just like the clothes, will be OUT OF STYLE in a few years.

There is also a big difference in the printing of your portraits. Many of the amateurs will use the drugstore or ONE HOUR lab to print your pictures!

Believe me, there is a HUGE difference in the price and quality of photographic prints that come from a professional printer compared to those of a drug store. Our printer serves only professional photographers who depend on the quality that their clients have come to expect. You will not see our work getting printed at Costco, Sam's or Walgreen's. I take pride in my work and pride in what my clients display in their homes. Our photographic prints are guaranteed not to fade or discolor for your lifetime. We have been doing this since 1989. We have only had to replace ONE print. We guarantee that you will thrilled when you see your previews or we will either redo your session at no extra charge or refund your money.

Prints larger than 8x10 need to be mounted. They just cannot be protected from damage and displayed properly UNLESS they are mounted. If the cheapo photographer does NOT deliver them mounted, you will have to pay someone else to have them mounted.

All our portrait print prices include artistic re-touching. We always fix things like facial blemishes, stray hair, glasses glare etc. Especially for beach portraits, we take out the stranger walking in the background or the boo boo on your child's knee.

JoAnn and I have been providing fine portraits for families since 1989. We will NOT lower our standards to compete with cheap amateurs who will probably not even be in business next year.
